Overview
Archive Warehouse in Rainham contacted Anglia Decor to quote a large-scale cladding spraying project covering 4,000m² of industrial cladding. The original plastisol coating had begun to debond from the metal profile after years of weathering, and the building had not been repainted since installation. The existing colour scheme looked dated, and the client wanted a complete transformation to a brighter, more modern goosewing grey finish. The windows and roller shutter doors also required decoration as part of the overall refurbishment.
Access and Preparation
Anglia Decor hired a cherry picker to provide safe access across the full elevation and arranged scaffold access to a confined area between two buildings. All operatives on site held current IPAF certification, working at height qualifications, and SSSTS training. Preparation began with a thorough degrease of all cladding surfaces using industrial-grade cleaning agents, followed by high-pressure washing to remove dirt, algae, and loose material. The cladding was then sanded to remove any remaining flaking coating and create a clean, sound substrate with a strong mechanical key.
Priming and Coating Application
All areas of bare metal were primed using Zinsser Allcoat, a high-adhesion primer suitable for metal substrates including previously coated plastisol cladding. The top coat applied was Rust-Oleum Noxyde in goosewing grey, a 200% elastic, high-build coating that bridges hairline cracks and provides long-term protection against corrosion and weathering. Noxyde serves as both a primer and finish coat in one application, delivering a durable and uniform finish across large surface areas.
Results
The project was completed on time and within budget. Anglia Decor's cladding spraying team carried out all work during normal business hours, coordinating with Archive Warehouse to minimise disruption during busy operational periods. The colour change from the original faded finish to the modern goosewing and anthracite grey scheme completely transformed the building's exterior. The Noxyde coating system provides an expected lifespan of 10–15 years before any maintenance is required.
