Overview
Avelair, a compressed air specialist based in Bury St Edmunds, contacted Anglia Decor to respray 400m² of external wall cladding that had been previously painted to a poor standard. The earlier paintwork had failed prematurely, leaving the building looking patchy and unprofessional. A full strip-back and professional respray was required to restore the building's appearance.
Surface Preparation
The main challenge on this project was the condition of the existing coating. The previous paint job had been applied without proper preparation, resulting in widespread adhesion failure and peeling. Our team began by degreasing and pressure washing all cladding surfaces to remove the failed coating, dirt, and surface contaminants. We then carried out a full rub-down to remove any remaining loose material and create a clean, sound substrate for the new coating system. All windows, doors, and adjacent surfaces were masked to protect against overspray.
Coating System Applied
We applied Zinsser Allcoat Exterior in satin finish across all 400m² of prepared cladding. Zinsser Allcoat provides excellent adhesion to previously painted and bare metal surfaces, making it the right choice for a substrate with a history of coating failure. The product was applied by airless spray in 2 full coats to achieve a consistent, durable finish with strong weather resistance. The satin sheen gives the building a clean, modern appearance that reflects Avelair's professional image.
Results
The Avelair cladding spraying was completed on time and to a far higher standard than the previous paintwork. The building's exterior was fully transformed, replacing the patchy, failing coating with a smooth, uniform finish. Avelair now has a professional-looking premises that properly represents their business in Bury St Edmunds.
