Overview
Anglia Decor was appointed as a subcontractor by Ash Construction to carry out a resin flooring installation at Edmonton Green Shopping Centre in North London. The shopping centre houses shops, a block of flats, and dozens of independent market stalls across a 200m² ground floor area. The existing flooring had worn significantly, and several defective sections required removal and replacement at depths of up to 60mm. The entire project was delivered on night shifts to avoid disruption to the centre's daily trading.
Phased Night-Shift Programme
Our industrial flooring team started in February 2020, working exclusively on night shifts to avoid disruption to the shopping centre's daily trading. The works followed a strict 5-week phased programme:
Week 1 focused on chasing out defective joints and filling surface imperfections using epoxy repair mortar and 2-pac filler. Week 2 addressed the deeper defective areas, approximately 70m² of floor that was removed by scabbler and breakers, then replaced using an Eposcreed levelling compound. Week 3 involved full floor preparation by Vacublast and diamond grinding. Our team prepared and applied 2 coats to sections within the same night shift, finishing by 3am to allow the Polyaspartic coating to cure before the centre opened the following morning. Weeks 4 and 5 followed the same pattern across the remaining sections until the full floor area was completed.
Coating System Applied
We applied a Polyaspartic resin coating system across the full 200m² floor area. Polyaspartic coatings are specifically suited to projects with tight turnaround requirements because they cure significantly faster than standard epoxy systems. This rapid cure profile allowed our team to prepare, prime, and apply 2 full coats within a single night shift, with the floor ready for foot traffic by the time the shopping centre opened the following morning. The system provides excellent abrasion resistance and is designed to withstand constant pedestrian traffic in a busy retail environment.
Results
Anglia Decor completed the Edmonton Green industrial flooring project on time and on budget across the 5-week night-shift programme. On completion, we provided Ash Construction and the shopping centre management with a full maintenance schedule and an 18-month warranty. The shopping centre floor was fully restored, with all defective areas repaired and a durable Polyaspartic resin coating installed across the entire ground floor area.
