Overview
Geeplus is a specialist manufacturer of electromagnetic actuators, solenoids, and voice coil motors, based at Triple Two Centre, Tannery Close, Beckenham, Kent. The company contacted Anglia Decor after a recently applied solvent-based floor paint had failed within weeks of application. A previous contractor had used an STR machine to prepare the concrete and applied a solvent-based floor paint over residual carpet adhesive, approximately 1mm of adhesive remained bonded to the substrate. The result was widespread coating failure across the entire floor area.
Surface Preparation
The root cause of the coating failure was inadequate substrate preparation, the previous contractor had not fully removed the carpet adhesive before applying the solvent-based paint. Anglia Decor took a different approach, starting with a 3-phase ride-on floor grinder fitted with PCD (polycrystalline diamond) shoes to mechanically strip the full 1mm layer of carpet adhesive from the concrete slab. PCD tooling is specifically designed for removing stubborn coatings, adhesives, and surface contaminants that conventional grinding cannot handle.
Once the adhesive was fully removed, our team switched to diamond grinding heads to refine the concrete surface, removing any scratches and score marks left by the PCD shoes. This 2-stage grinding process produced a smooth, clean, and properly profiled substrate with a strong mechanical key, the foundation for a long-lasting resin floor system. All minor imperfections, bolt holes, and surface scratches were then filled and levelled to create a flat, even base ready for coating.
Resin Coating System
We applied 2 coats of a high-build solvent-free resin coating in Goosewing Grey, achieving a dry film thickness of 400 microns. Solvent-free resin systems offer 3 key advantages over the solvent-based paint that had previously failed at this site:
• Superior adhesion, solvent-free resins bond mechanically and chemically to properly prepared concrete, eliminating the adhesion failures seen with the previous coating • Chemical resistance, the cured resin film resists oils, solvents, and cleaning chemicals common in light industrial environments • Durability, a 400-micron DFT provides a hard-wearing surface with a 5–6 year lifespan under light industrial traffic
The Goosewing Grey finish gives the floor a clean, professional appearance suited to Geeplus's precision manufacturing environment.
Results
Anglia Decor completed the Geeplus industrial floor coating on time and backed by a 12-month no-quibble warranty, a guarantee we provide on all our industrial flooring projects. The finished floor has a 400-micron dry film thickness and a projected lifespan of 5–6 years under light industrial usage. Geeplus now has a properly prepared, professionally coated factory floor that replaced a failed solvent-based system with a durable, solvent-free resin coating built to last.
