Industrial Resin Flooring at Hitchin, Paint Removal and High-Build Resin Coating

The Project

Anglia Decor completed a full industrial resin flooring installation at a warehouse in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. The project involved removing several layers of defective paint using a 500kg quad grinder, vacuuming the prepared surface, and applying 2 coats of high-build resin coating with filler to level out minor imperfections. The result is a clean, hard-wearing floor with no more flaking paint – a significant improvement over the previous surface.

The existing warehouse floor had accumulated multiple layers of paint over the years, all of which had begun to flake and delaminate. A standard floor coating applied over the top would have failed within months. The only proper solution was to strip the floor back to a sound substrate before applying any new system.

Anglia Decor brought in a 500kg quad grinder to remove the defective paint layers mechanically. This heavy-duty machine strips coatings efficiently across large floor areas, grinding down to clean concrete and creating a textured profile for the resin to bond to. Once grinding was complete, the full area was vacuumed to remove all dust and debris before coating.

Coating System

The floor received 2 coats of high-build resin coating, applied with plenty of filler to lose minor surface imperfections left after grinding. High-build systems provide a thicker film than standard floor paints, delivering better chemical resistance, impact resistance, and longevity in demanding industrial environments. The finished surface is smooth, sealed, and built to handle heavy foot and vehicle traffic without degrading.

Why Remove Old Paint Before Recoating

Applying a new coating over defective paint is one of the most common mistakes in industrial flooring. If the existing layers are flaking, any new system applied on top will delaminate with them. Mechanical removal using heavy-duty grinding equipment strips back to a stable substrate, giving the new resin a proper foundation to bond to. This approach costs more upfront but delivers a floor that lasts years rather than months.
