Garage Epoxy Floor
Garage Epoxy Floor Guide
Surface preparation
Diamond grinding the concrete will remove the top layer of weak concrete and give the coating a longer lasting finish. It can also level your rough cast floor, improving the finished appearance of the floor. It is also possible to acid etch the concrete to prepare, then rinsing the acid off and letting the concrete dry thoroughly.
New concrete floors
New concrete will have high moisture content for several months after being installed. There are water permeable epoxy coatings such as Epocoat WD suitable for new concrete and screeds.
Colour
The most popular colours for garage epoxy flooring are light greys. Ral 7001 and BS00A05 are both great shades of light grey. Epoxy resin flooring comes in any colour, lighter tones work better as they make the garage look brighter.
Types of epoxy flooring
Solvent free resin coatings are very durable and cost effective. These are not suitable for newly laid concrete as the mositure levels are too high.
Oil tolerant primers are available for bare floors that have suffered oil leaking onto the surface.
Water based epoxy resins are easy to apply, but not as durable as a solvent free resin coating.
Polyaspartic coatings offer quick cure times and can be over coated in 2-3 hours.
