Metal Roof Systems and Specification Service
Metal roofing accounts for over 80% of industrial and commercial roof installations in the UK. Three system types cover the range of performance and budget requirements. Single-skin profiled steel sheets , the most cost-effective option , are installed on purlins with through-fixed screws and sealed lap joints. They suit unheated buildings, agricultural stores, and industrial units where thermal performance is not a priority. Composite (sandwich) panels combine two profiled steel skins bonded to a rigid insulation core (PIR, mineral wool, or EPS) and deliver thermal performance, acoustic insulation, and weather protection in a single factory-assembled unit , the standard specification for heated factories, warehouses, offices, and retail buildings.
Standing seam metal roofs use long-run aluminium, zinc, or coated steel sheets with concealed clip fixings and raised seam joints. No through-fixings penetrate the sheet surface, which eliminates the most common leak source on industrial roofs. Standing seam is specified for low-pitch roofs (down to 1.5°), architecturally visible roofs, and buildings where long-term watertight performance is critical. Anglia Decor installs Kingspan, Tata Steel, Euroclad, and Corus profiled and composite systems to manufacturer specifications with full product warranties of 25 to 40 years on the panel and 15 to 25 years on the factory-applied coating.
Anglia Decor specifies the roof system based on the building's use, thermal requirements, structural capacity, and budget. A full specification includes sheet profile, gauge, insulation type and thickness (to meet Building Regulations Part L U-value targets), fixing pattern, flashing details, and gutter sizing. The specification is submitted to building control for approval before work starts.
Metal Roof Installation by Specialist Contractors
Metal roof installation follows a defined sequence. Structural steelwork and purlins are checked for level, alignment, and structural adequacy. Eaves, verge, and ridge flashings are set first to establish the weathering envelope. Sheets are lifted by crane or vacuum lifter and fixed from eaves to ridge in sequence, with lap sealant and stitcher screws at side laps. Through-fixings are set to the correct torque to compress the EPDM washer without over-tightening. Composite panels are installed in the same sequence with the added step of insulation continuity checks at every panel joint.
Anglia Decor manages the full installation programme including scaffold erection, edge protection, crane hire, sheet delivery scheduling, and waste removal. CDM compliance is built into the project plan from day one , method statements, risk assessments, and safe systems of work are prepared and approved before any operative goes on the roof. All operatives hold CSCS cards and are trained in industrial roofing and cladding safe working practices including fragile roof awareness, harness use, and material handling at height.

A 1,000 m² factory roof takes 2 to 3 weeks. A 5,000 m² warehouse roof takes 4 to 6 weeks. Timescales depend on system type, access, and weather. Anglia Decor provides a programme at tender stage.
Do metal roofs meet Building Regulations?
