Overview
Anglia Decor delivered a full resin floor refurbishment at the BMW Grimsby MOT and servicing centre, installing 300m² of KDR Resin Systems Epocoat HB anti-slip resin to replace the existing tiled floor. The job demanded a heavy-duty preparation phase to deal with a challenging multi-layered substrate, followed by a hard-wearing coating system designed for the wear, oil, and tyre traffic of a working MOT bay. Courtney, Lee, Tom, Lloyd Glew and Enoh delivered the project to a high standard.
Tile and Adhesive Removal
The starting point was 300m² of existing tiles bonded to the slab. Tiles and adhesive were mechanically removed across the full area, exposing the underlying concrete and the various historic repairs and infills sitting beneath the original finish.
Extensive Surface Preparation and Defect Repair
With the tiles off, the slab proved to be a challenging multi-layered floor with defects throughout. We carried out the following preparation works:
- Removal of all defective and delaminated areas back to a sound substrate
- Industrial top repairs using epoxy mortar to reinstate damaged sections of slab
- Polycote joint compound used to fill and stabilise joints
- Multiple applications of 2-pack filler to even out levels and close porosity ahead of coating
Perimeter Coving
Grey resin coving was installed to the perimeter walls, creating a clean junction between the floor and the wall, eliminating the dirt-trap right angle, and giving the finished floor a hygienic, easy-to-clean detail that suits a working automotive workshop.
KDR Epocoat HB Anti-Slip Resin System
The finished coating system is two coats of KDR Resin Systems Epocoat HB applied as an anti-slip finish. Epocoat HB is a high-build epoxy designed for heavy-duty industrial environments, and the anti-slip aggregate provides a safe walking and working surface for the technicians and their customers, even with oil and water present.
Car Park and MOT Bay Line Markings
Final stage of the job is the car park and MOT bay line markings, completing the bay layouts, walkways, and any required statutory markings to give BMW Grimsby a fully finished, fit-for-purpose workshop floor.
