How to paint an industrial floor
Tools required:
- Paint skuttle
- roller pole
- 12″ roller cage & solvent resistant sleeve
- Brushes
- Xylene thinners
- mixing paddle & screw gun
Preparation:
Hire a diamond grinder and industrial vacuum. This video shows a dfg250 but for smaller floors a Str 701 grinder will be easier to use. Attach the grinder to industrial vac, wear a ffp3 dust mask and ear defenders.
Vacuum:
It is important to remove any residual dust after grinding.
Filling:
If your floor has any small holes or defects these can be filled with 2 pack filler (cures in 20 mins).
Larger defects require Ardex A45 (this should be left for 24 hours to cure)
Mixing:
Add part a to part b.
Use screw gun and mixing paddle to stir paint for 1-2 mins. Ensure the bottom of tin is thoroughly mixed.
For the first coat you can add 10% xylene thinners.
Painting:
Pour most of paint into skuttle. Use the rest of paint in tin to cut in edges with a brush. There is a 30 min pot life, could have one person cutting in and another rolling. Apply an even coat to the floor.
When complete leave 24 hours to cure, may take longer if below 3 degrees.
Mix another tin and apply the top coat.

Our teams have installed resin floor screeds to car parks, food manufacturing industries and kitchens.
