Industrial Door Recoating Systems and Specification Service
Industrial doors take the hardest wear of any building element. Roller shutters cycle open and close 20 to 50 times a day, flexing the coating with every movement. Sectional doors are struck by forklifts, pallets, and loading equipment. Steel personnel doors in high-traffic entrances are kicked, scraped, and battered by trolleys. Coating failure on industrial doors is not just cosmetic , once the paint film breaks down, bare steel is exposed to moisture and the door starts corroding. Left untreated, corrosion spreads under the surrounding paint, compromises the door's structural integrity, and eventually requires full door replacement at £3,000 to £15,000 per unit depending on size and type.
Anglia Decor recoats roller shutters, sectional overhead doors, folding doors, sliding doors, steel personnel doors, fire doors, and loading bay dock leveller housings. The coating system is specified based on the door type and exposure. Galvanised steel doors receive an etch primer to bond to the zinc surface, followed by a polyurethane topcoat for UV stability and gloss retention. Mild steel doors are wire-brushed or abraded to remove corrosion and loose paint, primed with a zinc-rich or epoxy anti-corrosion primer, and topcoated with polyurethane. Aluminium doors receive a specialist adhesion primer formulated for non-ferrous substrates. All topcoats are applied by HVLP or airless spray for an even, factory-quality finish without brush marks or roller texture.
Colour matching is available to any RAL, BS, or manufacturer colour reference. Most clients match the existing building colour scheme. Others use the door repaint as an opportunity to add branded colours, company logos, or safety markings , hazard stripes, keep-clear zones, and fire exit identification applied directly into the coating system.

Door Spraying and Refurbishment by Specialist Contractors
Industrial door spraying is carried out on-site with the doors in their installed position. Roller shutters are sprayed in the closed position, with the guide rails, bottom bar, and housing box included in the coating programme. Sectional doors are sprayed panel by panel, with hardware, hinges, and tracks masked to prevent paint build-up affecting the door's operation. Personnel doors are sprayed on both faces with frames, ironmongery, and glazing beads masked. Surrounding cladding, brickwork, and floor areas are sheeted to contain overspray.
Surface preparation takes 40 to 60% of the project time and determines how long the finish lasts. Flaking paint is scraped and wire-brushed. Corrosion is taken back to bright metal with mechanical abrasion or power tools. Dents and damage are filled with metal body filler and sanded smooth. Grease, oil, and traffic film are degreased with solvent wipe. The prepared surface is primed the same day to prevent flash rusting on exposed steel. Topcoat application follows in 2 coats at 60 to 80 microns per coat, with 4 to 6 hours between coats depending on temperature and humidity.
Anglia Decor has recoated industrial doors on factory units, distribution centres, retail warehouses, cold stores, MOD facilities, and multi-occupancy industrial estates. A single roller shutter respray takes half a day. A programme of 10 to 20 doors across an industrial estate takes 1 to 2 weeks. All work includes a 12-month defects liability period on workmanship, with coating manufacturer warranties of 10 to 15 years on the applied system.
