On-Site Spray Painting Systems and Application Service

On-site spraying is the application of protective and decorative coatings using powered spray equipment at the client's premises rather than in a workshop. Airless spray rigs pump coating material at high pressure (typically 2,000 to 3,500 PSI) through a fine nozzle tip to produce an atomised fan pattern that lays down an even, consistent film in a single pass. A single operative with an airless rig applies coating at 4 to 6 times the rate of brush and roller. That speed makes spray application the only practical method for large surface areas , cladding spraying, warehouse walls, roof sheets, structural steelwork, and external elevations , where brush or roller work would take weeks rather than days.

Two spray technologies cover different application requirements. Airless spray delivers high output for broad, open surfaces , walls, ceilings, cladding, and roofing , where speed and film build are the priorities. HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) spray produces a softer, more controlled fan pattern for detailed work , window frames, door surrounds, signage panels, and architectural metalwork , where overspray control and finish quality matter most. Anglia Decor carries both systems on every project and switches between them based on the substrate, coating type, and precision required.

Coatings applied by spray include alkyd gloss and satin for general steelwork and joinery, polyurethane topcoats for UV-stable external finishes, epoxy primers and midcoats for corrosion protection, intumescent coatings for structural steel fire protection, and elastomeric roof coatings for waterproofing. Every coating is applied at the manufacturer's recommended wet film thickness, checked with a wet film gauge during application to ensure consistent coverage and performance.

On-Site Spray Application by Specialist Contractors

Overspray control is the primary technical challenge in on-site spraying. Atomised paint particles travel beyond the target surface and settle on vehicles, glazing, adjacent buildings, and anything else within range. Anglia Decor masks and sheets all non-target surfaces before spraying begins. External cladding projects use scaffold-mounted sheeting to contain overspray at the building perimeter. Internal spraying uses polythene draping, floor protection, and masking tape to isolate the work zone from production areas, stock, and equipment. Wind speed and direction are monitored on external projects , spraying stops above Beaufort force 3 to prevent drift.

Surface preparation before spraying follows the same standards as any coating application. Steel is wire-brushed, mechanically abraded, or blast-cleaned to the specified preparation grade. Cladding is pressure-washed to remove dirt, algae, and oxidation. Timber and masonry are cleaned, filled, and primed. The spray equipment is set up with the correct nozzle tip size, pressure setting, and fan pattern for the coating being applied. Each coating has a specific application window , temperature, humidity, and recoat interval , that the spray team works within.

Anglia Decor has delivered on-site spraying projects across factory units, retail parks, office buildings, school complexes, housing developments, and MOD facilities. Project scale ranges from single-shopfront resprays completed in a day to full industrial estate cladding recoats spanning 20,000 m² over 3 to 4 weeks. All work is backed by manufacturer warranties on the coating system and Anglia Decor's own 12-month defects liability period. On-site spraying is central to our dilapidation works — spray application allows complete cladding, roofing and decoration programmes to be delivered within tight lease-end deadlines.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is on-site spraying?

On-site spraying is the application of paint and protective coatings using powered spray equipment at your premises. Airless rigs apply coatings 4 to 6 times faster than brush and roller, making it the standard method for large-scale commercial and industrial painting.

What surfaces can be spray painted on-site?

Metal cladding, roof sheets, structural steelwork, blockwork walls, timber cladding, UPVC, aluminium, shopfronts, doors, window frames, and concrete. Virtually any exterior or interior surface that accepts a coating can be spray-applied on-site.

How do you control overspray?

Masking, sheeting, and scaffold-mounted containment protect all non-target surfaces. Internal work zones are isolated with polythene draping. External spraying is monitored for wind speed and stopped above Beaufort force 3 to prevent drift.

Is spray painting better than brush and roller?

For large surface areas, yes. Spray application is 4 to 6 times faster, produces a more even film build, and delivers a smoother finish on flat surfaces. Brush and roller is used for detail work, cutting in, and small areas where spray setup is not justified.

How long does on-site spraying take?

A single shopfront takes 1 day. A factory unit cladding respray (1,000 to 2,000 m²) takes 3 to 5 days. A full industrial estate cladding recoat (10,000+ m²) takes 3 to 4 weeks. Speed depends on surface area, preparation, and access.

What guarantee do you offer on spray-applied coatings?

Anglia Decor provides a 12-month defects liability period on workmanship. Coating manufacturers provide system warranties of 10 to 20 years depending on the product specified.
