Internal and External Factory Painting Service
Factory painting covers every painted surface inside and outside an industrial building , blockwork walls, plasterboard partitions, concrete columns, steel roof structures, purlins, trusses, mezzanine steelwork, roller shutter surrounds, and external masonry and cladding. The coatings specified depend on the substrate, the environment, and the performance required. Anti-condensation coatings on roof steelwork and cold metal surfaces prevent drip in temperature-cycling buildings. High-opacity emulsions on internal walls deliver a clean, bright finish that improves light reflectance and reduces lighting costs. Epoxy and polyurethane floor paints create durable, colour-coded walkways, safety zones, and equipment demarcation lines.
Anglia Decor uses airless spray application for large open areas , walls, ceilings, and steelwork , where speed and even coverage matter. A single operative with an airless rig covers 400 to 600 m² of wall area per day compared to 80 to 120 m² by roller. That speed difference is what makes factory repaints feasible during weekend shutdowns or planned maintenance windows. For detail work , cutting in around services, machinery, and electrical installations , brush and roller application ensures precision without overspray. On-site spraying is the default method for ceiling steelwork, purlins, and any surface above 3 metres where roller access is impractical.
Surface preparation determines coating adhesion and lifespan. Bare steelwork is wire-brushed or blast-cleaned to SA 2½ standard and primed with zinc-rich or epoxy primer before topcoating. Previously painted surfaces are de-greased, abraded, and spot-primed at any bare or corroded areas. Blockwork and masonry are sealed with alkali-resistant primer to prevent efflorescence bleeding through the topcoat. Anglia Decor carries out a full condition survey before quoting , identifying rust, flaking, moisture damage, and surface contamination that would cause premature coating failure if left untreated.

Factory Painting by Specialist Industrial Contractors
Factory painting in a live production environment requires planning around operations, health and safety, and access restrictions. Anglia Decor works nights, weekends, and during planned shutdowns so production continues uninterrupted. Where areas cannot be fully vacated, sheeting and masking protect machinery, stock, and finished goods from overspray and dust. Access equipment , scissor lifts, boom lifts, scaffold towers, and mobile elevated work platforms (MEWPs) , is selected based on ceiling height, floor loading, and the building's internal layout. All operatives hold IPAF, PASMA, and CSCS certification.
Colour coding and safety markings are applied as part of the factory repaint programme. Pedestrian walkways, forklift lanes, fire escape routes, hazardous material stores, and first aid stations are marked with contrasting floor paint and wall signage to meet HSE and fire regulation requirements. Anglia Decor follows BS 5378 and BS 1710 for safety colour identification , yellow for hazard, green for safe condition, red for fire equipment, blue for mandatory instruction.
Anglia Decor has painted factories for food manufacturers, automotive component suppliers, pharmaceutical producers, logistics operators, and engineering workshops. Projects range from single-unit workshop repaints taking 2 to 3 days to full factory refurbishments across 10,000 m² completed in phased weekend shutdowns over 4 to 6 weeks. For end-of-lease properties, our dilapidation contractors manage the full schedule of works including painting, cladding and flooring under a single contract. Every project includes a photographic condition report before and after, and a 12-month defects liability period on all applied coatings.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does factory painting take?
A single-unit workshop takes 2 to 3 days. A full factory refurbishment across 5,000 to 10,000 m² takes 4 to 6 weeks in phased shutdowns. Anglia Decor schedules around your operations , nights, weekends, and maintenance windows.
Can you paint a factory while it's operational?
Yes. Anglia Decor works in phased sections with sheeting and masking to protect machinery and stock. Low-odour, quick-dry coatings are specified for occupied buildings. Spraying is scheduled during non-production hours where overspray risk exists.
What paint is used on factory walls?
High-opacity contract emulsion for general walls. Anti-condensation coatings for cold metal surfaces and roof steelwork. Epoxy coatings for walls in wet or chemical-exposure areas. The specification depends on the substrate and environment.
Do you paint factory steelwork?
Yes. Roof steelwork, purlins, trusses, mezzanine frames, and structural columns are wire-brushed or blast-cleaned and coated with primer and topcoat systems. Anti-corrosion primers are specified for exposed or damp environments.
How much does factory painting cost?
Costs depend on surface area, height, condition, and access requirements. Anglia Decor provides a fixed-price quotation after the site survey , no hidden charges.
Do you apply floor markings?
Yes. Pedestrian walkways, forklift lanes, fire routes, and hazard zones are colour-coded to BS 5378 and HSE standards using durable epoxy or polyurethane floor paint applied during the repaint programme.
