Cladding Recoating Systems and Specification Service

Cladding panels on industrial and commercial buildings lose their factory-applied finish over 15 to 25 years. UV exposure fades the colour. Rain, pollution, and salt air attack the coating film. The plastisol, PVF2, or polyester paint system chalks, cracks, and eventually exposes the bare metal substrate to corrosion. At that point the building looks tired, the cladding's protective barrier is compromised, and the owner faces a decision: full panel replacement at £80 to £120 per m², or a professional cladding respray at £15 to £30 per m² that restores the appearance and reinstates the weather protection for another 15 to 20 years.

Anglia Decor applies spray-applied polyurethane and polyester coating systems to profiled steel, aluminium, composite sandwich panels, plastisol-coated sheets, and UPVC cladding. The coating is specified based on the substrate, the building's exposure (coastal, urban, rural), and the required finish. Polyurethane topcoats deliver a high-gloss, UV-stable finish with excellent colour retention , the standard for prominent elevations, retail frontages, and buildings where appearance matters. Polyester systems offer a more cost-effective satin finish for industrial units, warehouse walls, and rear elevations where durability matters more than aesthetics. All systems are applied over a corrosion-inhibiting primer to reinstate the anti-corrosion protection that the original factory finish has lost.

Colour matching is done to any RAL, BS, or manufacturer-specific colour reference. Anglia Decor can match the existing colour to restore the original appearance, or apply a completely new colour scheme as part of a rebrand or building refresh. Roof sheets, wall cladding, fascias, soffits, flashings, and guttering are all coated within the same programme so the entire building envelope is finished in a single mobilisation. Where panel damage exists , dents, scratches, cut edges, or minor corrosion , repairs are carried out before spraying so the finished surface is smooth and uniform.

Cladding Spray Application by Specialist Contractors

Cladding spraying is carried out from scaffold, cherry pickers, or rope access depending on the building height, access restrictions, and project scale. Anglia Decor surveys the building to determine the access method, cladding type, coating condition, and surface area before specifying the system and programme. For buildings under 15 metres, mobile elevated work platforms (MEWPs) , cherry pickers and scissor lifts , provide efficient access without the cost of full scaffold erection. For taller buildings, complex elevations, or projects where scaffold is already in place for other works, traditional scaffold with sheeting provides a controlled work platform and overspray containment.

Surface preparation is the critical step. Cladding panels are pressure-washed at 2,000 to 3,000 PSI to remove dirt, algae, moss, chalk residue, and oxidation products. Any areas of corrosion are wire-brushed or mechanically abraded back to bright metal and spot-primed with zinc-rich or chromate-free anti-corrosion primer. Cut edges, drill holes, and fixings are sealed and primed. The full panel surface is then primed with an adhesion-promoting primer compatible with the existing coating system before the topcoat is applied by airless spray in 2 coats to achieve the specified dry film thickness (typically 60 to 80 microns per coat).

Anglia Decor has recoated cladding on factory units, distribution warehouses, retail parks, school buildings, MOD facilities, office complexes, and agricultural buildings. Projects range from single-elevation resprays on small industrial units (200 to 500 m²) to full building recoats on multi-building industrial estates (10,000+ m²). For buildings where cladding work forms part of an end-of-lease obligation, our industrial dilapidation services coordinate cladding spraying with painting, flooring and roofing remediation under a single contract. Weather windows are managed carefully , cladding spraying requires dry conditions, ambient temperature above 5°C, and low wind speed. Anglia Decor schedules around seasonal weather patterns and provides NFRC-aligned technical standards on all cladding and roofing coating work.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does cladding spraying cost?

Cladding respraying typically costs £15 to £30 per m² depending on access, substrate condition, and coating system. Full panel replacement costs £80 to £120 per m². Anglia Decor provides a fixed-price quotation after the site survey.

How long does cladding spraying last?

A professionally applied polyurethane or polyester coating system lasts 15 to 20 years depending on the building's exposure (coastal, urban, rural) and the coating specification. UV-stable polyurethane topcoats retain colour and gloss longest.

Can you spray cladding while the building is occupied?

Yes. Cladding spraying is external work and does not affect internal operations. Scaffold sheeting or MEWP containment controls overspray. Entrance areas and car parks are masked and protected during works.

What types of cladding can be sprayed?

Profiled steel, aluminium, composite sandwich panels, plastisol-coated sheets, UPVC, timber cladding, and cement fibre board. Virtually any external cladding material that accepts a coating can be resprayed on-site.

Do you repair cladding before spraying?

Yes. Dents, scratches, cut edges, and minor corrosion are repaired and primed before spraying. Heavily corroded or structurally damaged panels are replaced before the respray programme begins.

Can you change the colour of cladding?

Yes. Anglia Decor can match the existing colour or apply a completely new colour scheme to any RAL, BS, or manufacturer-specific reference. Colour changes are common during rebrands or building refurbishments.
