Resin Staircase Coatings & Anti-Slip Systems

Slippery stairs cause injuries and liability claims. Anglia Decor applies seamless resin coatings to staircases in factories, warehouses, offices and retail units across the UK. Anti-slip finishes, colour options and safety nosings create safe, durable stairs built to last.

Resin Staircase Protection & Safety Features

Resin staircase systems transform risk into protection. A seamless epoxy coating 7 times thicker than standard paint bonds permanently to concrete, metal or timber steps. The anti-slip surface texture prevents slips and falls even in wet, dusty or chemically challenging environments. Unlike paint or stickers, resin stairs maintain grip under heavy foot traffic.

Colour and finish options are extensive. Choose bright yellow, orange or red nosings to highlight step edges and reduce trip hazards. The base coat comes in grey, beige, dark green or custom colours to match your facility branding or safety protocols. Flake finishes add visual appeal and enhance grip. Quartz-aggregate systems create textured, industrial aesthetics while delivering maximum anti-slip performance.

Safety features are built in. Each stair receives a prominent nosing stripe that creates a visual boundary. The coating integrates seamlessly, eliminating cracks, gaps or peeling edges where dirt accumulates. The result is easier cleaning and lower maintenance costs compared to traditional painted or tiled stairs.

Commercial applications include factory walkways, office building staircases, retail access points, warehouse mezzanine steps and plant rooms. High-traffic areas demand durable solutions. Resin systems handle foot traffic, thermal cycling, minor impacts and chemical exposure without degradation. They’re rated for both indoor and sheltered external steps.

Installation, Curing & Maintenance

Installation starts with surface preparation. All existing coatings, adhesives and sealants are removed. The substrate is abraded or shot-blasted to create mechanical grip for the new resin system. Cracks and spalls are repaired. The surface is then degreased and primed with epoxy base coat.

The resin coating is applied in 2–3 layers depending on system type and surface condition. Each layer bonds fully before the next is applied. Nosing stripes are applied to the leading edge of each step in contrasting colours. The entire process takes 5–7 days depending on staircase size and ambient temperature. After 7 days, light foot traffic is permitted. Full cure takes 14 days.

Maintenance is straightforward. Sweep weekly to remove dust and grit. Mop with mild detergent and warm water. Avoid abrasive cleaners that can damage the surface. Resin stairs resist chemical spillages and petroleum products common in industrial settings. Annual inspection for any coating damage allows spot repairs before problems spread.

Durability depends on traffic levels and maintenance. Light-to-moderate use in offices runs 10–15 years. Heavy industrial staircases with constant movement typically perform for 7–10 years before top-coat refresh becomes worthwhile. A protective refresh coat costs far less than full replacement and restores anti-slip performance to original standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between epoxy and polyurethane resin staircases?

Epoxy systems are more cost-effective and suit most indoor applications. They’re rigid and highly durable. Polyurethane is more flexible and handles thermal expansion better in outdoor or extreme-temperature settings. Both provide excellent anti-slip performance. Anglia Decor recommends epoxy for industrial facilities and polyurethane for external or temperature-variable environments.

How long does installation take?

A standard 2-flight staircase takes 2–3 days for preparation and application. The coating cures over 7 days before light use is safe. Full hardness takes 14 days. During curing, the staircase must be cordoned off. We schedule work to minimise disruption—typically at weekends or after hours in busy facilities.

Can resin coatings be applied over existing paint or tiles?

No. All existing coatings must be removed to bare substrate. Paint or tile adhesive prevents the resin bonding properly and the new system will eventually peel. Removal is labour-intensive but essential for durability. We quote removal as part of the full remediation cost.

What colours and finishes are available?

We offer grey, beige, dark green and custom colour bases with bright yellow, orange or red nosing stripes. Finishes include smooth epoxy (easy clean), flake aggregate (textured, decorative) and quartz aggregate (high-grip, industrial). Safety-critical sites choose bright nosings; branded facilities often select custom colour matches.

How much does a resin staircase cost?

A 2-flight staircase typically costs £3,500–£6,500 including surface prep, coatings and nosing stripes. Larger stairwells or multi-flight staircases run £8,000–£15,000. Costs depend on existing condition, substrate type and finish selections. We provide detailed quotes after site inspection.

Is the anti-slip surface safe for wheelchairs and mobility aids?

Yes. Resin stair systems provide consistent grip for wheelchairs, crutches and walking aids. The nosing stripe creates clear step definition. Some facilities add handrail or tactile warning systems for additional accessibility. We can advise on best practices for fully accessible staircase design and coatings.
